What happens in the show?
Alba: In the bin one?
Oran: It’s called The Bin Show!
A: They kept on doing loads of dances and they kept on spinning the things around.
Roo: And they had those boxes on wheels.
O: And the moving box. [Disappointed] They didn’t show you what was in it.
A: It was a music show?
O: Because they made music with instruments. Well… not instruments.
A: They used objects! And cooking stuff.
What did you like most about the show?
A: I liked it when that funny guy was being funny.
O: Yeah that was funny!
R: I liked it when they were making sounds with the plastic bags. When that person was [gestures conducting].
Was there anything you didn’t like?
A: No actually I liked quite a lot of it.
O: Yeah. My favourite parts were when they put things in the machine.
A: Yeah in the recycling bit and it pushed out big huge straws.
O: Not straws they were instruments.
A: Oh yeah, I played with them in my music class at school.
O: In OUR music class.
What did your grown-up think about the show?
Ingenious, energetic performance transforming discarded objects into musical instruments with a central message of recycling. There were beautiful parts, like water falling through colanders to make music accompanied by a steelpan, and very loud parts, using the audience’s claps to build a rhythm. We were sort of amazed by how effectively the crowd could be controlled by the man wearing the ‘vest of power’ – “It reminds me of the pandemic,” one parent was heard to observe. Only in the sense of the total surrendering of our free will – the vibes were otherwise very carnival.
Would you tell your friends to go to the show?
O: Yes
A: Yes
Both: You!
Both: JINX!
