As someone who has grown up with a healthy dose of cynicism, it does feel a bit strange going into a show based entirely on hypnotism. However, it is difficult to resist the energy radiating from the host of the ’90s party hypnoshow,’ Matt Hale. Audience members are greeted by classic songs from the 90s, and Hale himself is wearing a bright jumpsuit and sunglasses, running up and down the aisles to get the energy up.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of a ‘hypnoshow,’ have no fear – Hale explains everything at the beginning of the show. He also emphasises that he is not here to have anyone do anything embarrassing – everyone is meant to have fun, whether they’re under the influence of hypnotism or watching those on stage. Indeed, it is quite fun to watch the people on stage do silly things like dance to the Macarena or beg for Wonderwall, but it still all feels a bit… Unbelievable. Ultimately, Hale is a great host and does an impressive job of controlling both the audience members on stage and those in the crowd, making for an enjoyable hour for people of all ages – whether they believe in hypnotism or not.
