Review: Sibet Partee: Behind

Tale of Tudor obsession is lightly plotted but delivered with gusto

Let’s get this out of the way – we can all agree that King Henry VIII in The Tudors, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, is quite the good-looking monarch. But for Sibet Partee, Henry is more than just a character – he is a figure she has been obsessed with since she was a child. And, following in the footsteps of her first love, Partee has quite a few interesting stories about her own love life. And when it comes to storytelling, there’s no holding back. Partee is willing to name names (AKA Timothée Chalamet) and share the highs and lows of her life, from her grandfather’s death to showing her butt on stage in Virginia. There is even an entirely new bit based on a man she met just a few days ago in Edinburgh, lovingly referring to him as “Clown C*ck.”

While Partee does have some truly great stories, quite a bit of the show doesn’t really follow the show’s description, including a lack of burlesque, which would have added another layer to the show. It would have also been interesting to see the theme of her obsession with Henry VIII and The Tudors coming back throughout the hour. Partee, however, has unmatchable stage presence and, hopefully, audiences will see more of it in the future.
