Darby James’ award winning one-man musical about sperm donation really does prove that the Fringe has it all. The comically titled Little Squirt details his nine-month journey from clicking a Facebook advert to being the potential father of up to 27 children. Filled with catchy songs, Darby guides us through his mental angst as he grapples with the morals of procreation and what it really means when everyone labels him ‘generous’.

This comedy tale of medical questionnaires, therapy sessions and genetic tests is set to a fantastically written score performed by Darby. With poignant moments looking introspectively at the possibilities of queer parenthood, and witty anecdotes pondering the personalities of his future offspring, the performance is a whirlwind of unchartered territory.

While at points the show teetered on the verge of virtue signalling rather than altruism, the audience interaction and amusing songs (including, but not limited to, ‘Spunk Daddy’), had the whole audience rooting for this biological father-to-be.

Despite being a one-man showcase, the show has the potential for a full ensemble. The songs easily lend themselves to a West End stage, and with Darby James’ natural charm, this Little Squirt will only get bigger.
