‘If the first female Prime Minister can be forgotten, what hope do we have?’ Such is the central thesis of SH!T Theatre’s new musical comedy endeavour. Born out of an abject fascination with former Prime Minister of Argentina Isabel Perón, this parody musical meets investigative journalism project tells the largely untold story of Perón’s rise to power and subsequent erasure from history books.
Fringe legends Becca Biscuit and Louise Mothersole positively outdo themselves in EVITA TOO as they masterfully weave together a painstakingly researched script with nonsensical silliness and West End-worthy tunes (take that Andrew Lloyd Webber). At a run time of one hour fifteen, it’s clear no lyric or gag was left unconsidered.
With hilarious crowd work, democratic votes and naked rollerblading to pack in between hard-hitting factoids, Biscuit and Mothersole have no choice but to race through the material, going line for line and song for song at a pace that keeps us all flying by the seat of our pants. If you’re easily overstimulated this may not be your bag, but if you’re interested in having your funny bone tickled and mind blown by a feminist story for the ages, EVITA TOO is the hottest ticket at the Fringe.
